Integrating social and community psychiatry in the general psychiatry residency curriculum in the Philippines

In the Philippines, social and community psychiatry (SCP) has long been viewed as a subspecialty. This perspective has limited the development of necessary competencies among graduates of general psychiatry residency programs. A review of how SCP was understood and taught in different training institutions identified gaps and needs in integrating it in the general psychiatry curriculum. Situated in the local context, a curriculum is proposed to standardize the teaching of SCP in the country to achieve identified learning outcomes.
