Faculty of Medicine & Pharmacy of Marrakech

The creation of the FMPM was made by the late His Majesty Hassan II in 1994. The FMPM is part of the UCA (University of Cadi Ayyad) .

This achievement had to meet several objectives:

  • As part of the regionalization desired by His Majesty, it was necessary for the southern areas of the Kingdom to benefit from a Faculty of Medicine. This allowed students from these regions to continue their medical studies & not far away from their cities of residence. At the end of their studies, their assignment in these same regions would restore the balance of the health map of the kingdom.
  • The national numerus clausus remaining unchanged, the redeployment of some of the medical students from Casablanca to Marrakech should improve the conditions of their training and supervision.
  • The construction of a University Hospital Center (CHU) that accompanies the Faculty should improve access to specialized care for patients in the southern areas, who are currently forced to travel to Rabat and Casablanca.
  • The creation of a Faculty of Medicine and a CHU are vectors for the development and evaluation of the quality and level of medical skills in the region.
  • The Dahir for the creation of this faculty was published in the official bulletin No. 4259 of June 15, 1994.
